Petra Thaller is invited to speak at Garmin Health Summit on October 28–29, 2021, in Lisbon
OAC Spirit, Founder & President Petra Thaller is invited to speak at the Garmin Health Summit 2021 in Lisbon! The Summit will take place on 28 and 29 October 2021 at the "suspenso" in the heart of Lisbon. All presentations are scheduled for 29 October. This year, the summit will take place as a hybrid event.

For the first time, Garmin will present the Garmin Health Awards for the most innovative solutions using Garmin wearables in three different categories:
Healthcare, Insurance and Customer Engagement.

Employees and industry experts will attend this event for panel discussions and informative presentations.
The upcoming Health Summit, led by Garmin, will focus on the different areas of healthcare, insurance, corporate wellness, patient monitoring and more.

"I am very pleased to receive this recognition of our work over the past years. The Garmin Health Summit is an important further milestone in the still young history of OAC for Europe and beyond. Digitalization, network and knowledge transfer, and securing offers on an international level are the main tasks that OAC has taken on in the past two years. Garmin was and is an important supporting partner in our international network activities." Petra Thaller

The aim of OAC work in Europe and beyond is primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention of cancer through outdoor activities and sports. It has been proven that other crucial roles are healthy environment, healthy diet and mental health. OAC works sustainably in all these areas, and because we take not only cancer patients but also their family and friends with us, we have the relative opportunity to create real change for all people.

In academia, there are several research papers that demonstrate the importance of a healthy active lifestyle and exercise for cancer prevention and mental health. Much more can be done to reach a broader audience and raise awareness for a target group that does not have access to scientific literature, especially the young cancer survivor group. For the group of young cancer survivors, it is important that they are given a tool that corresponds to their generation and that, following the WHO plan: CUREall, accompanies them on their self-responsible path to a future with a better quality of life and healthy behaviors.
One of the most recent studies* on the behavior of young cancer survivors provides evidence that  teenage and young adult (TYA) cancer survivors have a desire to change their health behaviors.
